City Council

The governing body of the City of Valentine is the City Council.  It consists of five elected members who are residents and registered voters of the city and who serve four year terms.  The City Council elects one of its own members as the President of the Council.  The President presides at all meetings of the Council and has a voice and vote in its proceedings but no veto. The President is recognized as the official head of the city for all ceremonial purposes, by the courts for the purpose of serving civil process, and by the Governor for military purposes. In the absence of the President, the Council shall elect one of its own body to occupy his or her place temporarily, who shall be styled Vice-President of the Council. The council meets on the second Thursday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the Valentine Library Meeting Room.
